Ane Raunam (b. 1959 in Tallinn)

1983 SAIE

I started to participate in exhibitions in 1983. I have participated in most applied art exhibitions held in Estonia. Personal exhibitions: 1991 in the gallery of Tallinn Art Hall, 1992 in Kristjan Raud Museum in Tallinn, exhibitions in A-Gallery in 1999, 2001 and 2002 and in the Safe of A-Gallery in 2006, 2009 and 2013. My works have been exposed also in Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Germany, UK, Finland, Denmark, Sweden and China.

My creation has always been inspired by Estonian nature. My favourite stone is a boulder polished by the sea. Also Estonian grain fields, forest, bushes – these are the places, where I get inspiration for graphic textures and grid, which I use in various techniques. My favourite technique is embossing, but also engraving, forging and milling on silver. – In the book “A-Gallery. Estonian art jewellery gallery for 20 years” (2014)

“Morning is a fragile time. Every day begins in a different way. Sometimes you wake up in a good mood, sometimes low-spirited or even sad. Early one morning, while sitting in the kitchen with my first cup of coffee and fliping an old silver spoon back and forth in my hand, I had the idea of capturing the different moods of my mornings. As a silversmith, I would naturally do it in silver. The most important one became the old spoon that I held in my hand that morning. And so it was that HAPPY MORNING was born, where I “grew” a whimsical and happy whirlwind of white freshwater pearls and golden spheres onto the handle of the spoon in place of the head.” – Ane Raunam at the A-Gallery exhibition MEMORY CARDS (2019)
