Harry Tensing (b 1972 in Tartu)

1998 EAA

I graduated Tartu Art School in 1992 and Estonian Academy of Arts in 1998. Since 2000 I have been working in OÜ Roman Tavast. I have held two personal exhibitions in A-Gallery.

My main material is silver, but I have used also other metals, as well as stones and bone. In my creation I have implemented various techniques, not limiting myself with a fixed style. Material treatment possibilities fascinate me more than the idea to be communicated. It is always interesting to handle form issues in jewellery, shaping simple forms into wearable jewellery.- In the book “A-Gallery. Estonian art jewellery gallery for 20 years” (2014)

“I’m not the kind of person who tries to create a story for every piece of jewellery. Instead, I often solve compositional tasks that I present to myself. One idea was to make a faceted ball. I looked at how to make a ball, which must look faceted, but which would eventually be round. The facets are purely for the purpose of conveying surface geometry. From there, it was like a kind of small human experiment, to see how big the earrings are, which sell the best. How big should they be, to suit a person well? I can go a little statistical survey for myself. For me, jewellery if often like a mathematical task.” – Harry Tensing at the A-Gallery exhibition MEMORY CARDS (2019)
