Ene Valter (b. 1952 in Tallinn)

1977 SAIE

I have been a member of the Artists’ Association since 1986; I am also a founder member of A-Gallery and have been the chairperson of its management board twice*. Since 1997 I have been working in OÜ ARS Vasetööd as a member of the management board and executive director. In recent decades my creation has been mainly related to the design and making of badges, medals, badges of honour, chains of office of university rectors etc. In jewellery creation I have always loved clear and simple form language. I appreciate classical jewellery and its wearability from generation to generation.- In the book “A-Gallery. Estonian art jewellery gallery for 20 years” (2014)

* Since 2019 Ene Valter is the chairperson of its management board already third time.

At first, the main buyers were tourists. We were so new and unique, that even colleagues from neighbouring countries said that we were the largest gallery in the Nordic countries exhibiting and selling only jewellery. There used to be a very popular American TV series “Santa Barbara”, whose main characters came to Tallinn and were brought to our gallery. It was a big and exciting evening for us, and the visit was later written about in the press. Their visit was hosted by the U.S. Embassy, and I don’t know who added us to the program, but A-Gallery was among the places to visit.” – Ene Valter at the A-Gallery exhibition MEMORY CARDS (2019)
