Marje Kerem

Marje Kerem (Kundla) (b. 1944 in Lääne-Viru County)

1974 SAIE

I started my studies in the speciality of jewellery decoration in 1969 and exposed my first works in an exhibition in 1971. With four necklaces and two badges completed as diploma project I developed the principles for further creative period, which I have followed until today. It is a form, where plastic shape and geometry create an artistic integrity, complementing each other through lines or surface images. In recent time I have also found a place for the symbols of traditional faith of Estonians.

In the creation I like to use themes from my own life, but also from nature, politics and current events, providing a meaning for them through various artistic systems. People feel subconsciously home as a property, what they want to persist, but it will perish with them… However, there is another home, the home of universe, which value comes from life. This is permanent, it cannot be taken from anyone, it is a real property in the infinity of the universe.

1983–1990 I worked in Ars-Juveel as an artist, now I have been a freelance artist for several years already. Since 1986 I have held nine personal exhibitions in art galleries and studios. My works have been exposed in Czechoslovakia, France, Romania, Australia, Poland, Russia, Finland and Norway.- In the book “A-Gallery. Estonian art jewellery gallery for 20 years” (2014)

“People subconsciously toward their home as if it’s everlasting, but it will perish with them. There is another home though, the universal home, which’ value comes from the life you live. This is permanent, in cannot be taken from anyone, it is a real property in the infinity of the universe.” – Marje Kerem at the A-Gallery exhibition MEMORY CARDS (2019)
