Irene Jürna (b. 1952 in Tallinn)

1976 SAIE

During the studies and after graduating from the university I made mainly larger, including sculptural forms – some works were completed for the interiors of public buildings in Vilnius and Kaunas.

Since 1974 I have participated in exhibitions in Tallinn and elsewhere. I have held several personal exhibitions in A-Gallery. Currently I am working also as a teacher of composition and drawing in Tallinn Art School.- In the book “A-Gallery. Estonian art jewellery gallery for 20 years” (2014)

“I like it when a piece of jewellery is natural, as if it wasn’t real jewellery, but resembles, for example, textile. The lace has not come from a particular object; a sense of textile is simply important. I have also wrapped rings like a bandage around a finger. I like it when jewellery seems to be a bit worn, even broken. Initially, I also made jewellery with actual gaps within, but this made them difficult to wear.” – Irene Jürna at the A-Gallery exhibition MEMORY CARDS (2019)
