Broken Beauty

06.11.2026 - 28.11.2026

At first glance, a luxurious festive table reveals, upon closer inspection, an appreciation for the old, worn and broken, and a willingness to give these objects a new chance. It reflects an understanding that scratches and cracks are part of the passage of time and the process of use, giving objects character, soul and a story.

Inspired by the traditional Japanese repair technique of kintsugi and the philosophy of wabi-sabi, the exhibition highlights the beauty of imperfection and impermanence, giving a new quality to timeworn ceramic shards by embellishing them with silver, zircons, red wood and semi-precious stones.

Caius Kull (b. 1966) studied at the Estonian Academy of Arts from 1988 to 1993, while also furthering his studies in Finland and Denmark. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions since 2001 and is a member of the Estonian Association of Metal Artists. Kull enjoys exploring the diverse possibilities of contemporary jewellery. His practice includes enamelling, plique-à-jour, filigree, bone and wood carving, and repoussé, as well as experimentation with various artist-developed techniques. He works with a wide range of materials, primarily those of natural origin. In his earlier works, he has combined precious metals and stones with materials found in nature, such as glass shards washed ashore, fossils, driftwood, bone and rusty barbed wire.
