Katariina Kriipsalu (b. 1997) is a young jewellery artist who graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in jewellery and blacksmithing department. In the course of her studies, she has also improved herself in Hungary, the Netherlands and Spain.
“I have always liked working with my hands. It seems to me that the material begins to live in my hands and direct itself. I enjoy the work process, sometimes I surprise myself by observing how the jewellery takes shape and what it becomes.
As for the materials, I have become close to silver and enamel, and I also enjoy stone grinding as a way to bring out the beauty hidden in the stone and give a chance to shine even to a piece of stone that seems ordinary at first glance.
For me, jewellery art combines creativity and practicality, it is an opportunity to create wearable art that can convey a message, but whose meaning can also remain a mystery to the wearer.” – Katariina Kriipsalu
