Maria Valdma Härm (b 1973 Kärdla)

Maria Valdma-Härm is an acclaimed Estonian jewellery artist. In 2000, she graduated cum laude with a Master’s degree in Metal Art from the Estonian Academy of Arts. She has been exhibiting her work since 1994. In addition to Estonia and several European countries, her work has been exhibited in Brazil, China, South Korea and the United States.

From 1996 to 2005, she was a member of the artist group F.F.F.F. She received the Annual Award of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia in 2002 (together with F.F.F.F.) and again in 2021. In 2016, she was awarded the NOOR EHE (Young Jewellery) Prize, and in 2009 she received A-Gallery’s Award for the Best Exhibition of the Year.

Over the course of nearly three decades of exhibiting, Valdma-Härm’s work has entered the collections of several museums, including the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design and the Art Museum of Estonia, as well as numerous private collections around the world.

For many years, she has worked as a curator and gallery manager at HOP Gallery of the Estonian Artists’ Association and is herself a member of the Estonian Artists’ Association. She was awarded the Estonian State Artists’ Salary for the period 2024–2026.

At the core of Valdma-Härm’s artistic practice is a poetic exploration of the relationships between space, memory and the individual through jewellery. Her work brings together jewellery and spatial inquiry, examining the points of contact between the wearer and the worn object, as well as the reflections that emerge where personal and public space intersect. She investigates how identities take shape and how relationships accumulate and are preserved as poetic traces within space and memory—within our consciousness and perception.
