Erle Nemvalts (b. 1991) is an Estonian jewellery artist whose work explores human behavioural patterns and peculiarities. She is intrigued by the relationship between jewellery and the body, and by how bodily presence creates meaning and opens new perspectives. In her practice, Erle does not shy away from melancholy or darkness, yet she balances these with sarcasm and kitsch, introducing unexpected and multilayered nuances.
She invites the viewer to experience her inner world both physically and mentally, playing with contrasts between symbols and materials — where lightness meets weight, hope meets despair, and the somber intertwines with the romantic. The result is poetic yet tense works that invite reflection and emotion.
Erle holds a Master’s degree from the Estonian Academy of Arts and is now dedicated to mentoring young artists. Her work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Estonia, Portugal, Germany, France, Belgium, the United States, the Netherlands, and Hungary.
In 2019, she received the Young Jewellery Fund’s special grant, and in 2023, the prestigious Marzee Graduate Prize.
Erle Nemvalts’ exhibition SOURCES OF VIRTUE was chosen as the best VAULT exhibition of A-Gallery in 2020.
