NATURE’S UPRISING: Insects and Flowers in Jewellery Art

*a moment before the end of silence*

And beauty is born. In the midst of brown mud, slush and mire: a hum, a tremor, germination, multiplication, flourishing. This is the force of nature, lower than the grass, taking root in dark depths, reaching toward the tender warmth of light to bloom. And it cannot be held back, and spring awakens, and summer bends in abundance… once, and always, and forever.

TWO BIRDS AND A BLACK TREE

An exhibition by the Latvian artist Guntis Lauders titled TWO BIRDS AND A BLACK TREE is a fantastical journey to rediscover one’s connection with nature through the abundance of materials and beauty. The artist writes:

“Nature is my inspiration and one of my greatest teachers.

In order to create something, I need to be in the silence of nature from time to time. Being there allows me to access thoughts and feelings that are deep inside me; and the more I look, the more I see…

Symbols, metaphors and images appear in front of my eyes – all I have to do is take note of them and turn them into jewellery.

I like to work with my hands; I like to see the results and I know that everything depends solely on me.

Beauty makes me feel good and happy about life.

I feel that many people have lost their connection with the natural world. I invite them to return to their roots through my jewellery.”

Guntis Lauders (1965) has graduated from Estonian Academy of Art, from the Metal art department in 1992 and holds a master’s degree from the Art Academy of Latvia since 2005. Lauders has had many solo-exhibitions in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Germany and the Nordic countries, participated in group exhibitions of international and local importance in Latvia, Europe, the US, Russia, Japan.
